About the Toleman TG184 & Ayrton Senna's Legendary Monaco Drive
The Toleman TG184 was designed by renowned Formula One engineer Rory Byrne and powered by a Hart 415T 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine. Although Toleman was a small, independent team, the TG184 proved highly competitive under the right conditions, particularly in wet weather.
The 1984 Monaco Grand Prix became one of the most legendary races in Formula One history. Driving from 13th on the grid, rookie Ayrton Senna delivered a remarkable wet-weather performance, overtaking much of the field and rapidly closing on race leader Alain Prost. As the rain intensified, Senna appeared destined to take the lead before race officials controversially stopped the event on lap 31 due to dangerous conditions.
Because the race was halted early, the results were declared based on the previous completed lap, awarding Senna second place. Although he narrowly missed victory, his extraordinary drive announced the arrival of a future Formula One legend and remains one of the sport's most iconic performances.
