About the 1971 Range Rover British Trans-Americas Expedition
Introduced in 1970, the original Range Rover Classic quickly proved it could do far more than traditional road driving. Its combination of four-wheel-drive capability, rugged engineering, and practicality made it an ideal vehicle for extreme expeditions.
In 1971, two factory-supported Range Rovers were selected for the historic British Trans-Americas Expedition. The vehicles undertook an extraordinary journey from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, covering around 18,000 miles and tackling some of the most difficult terrain in the Americas. One of the greatest challenges was the crossing of the Darién Gap, an infamous and extremely difficult section of terrain between Panama and Colombia.
