About the Mercedes-Benz 500 SLC Rallye

Campaigned by the Mercedes-Benz works team in 1979 and 1980, the 500 SLC was an unlikely rally weapon — a large, luxury-oriented coupe built with a lightweight body, wheel-arch wideners, and a 5.0L V8 producing nearly 300 hp. Despite its size, it delivered Mercedes-Benz its first-ever World Rally Championship victory at the gruelling Bandama Rally in the Ivory Coast, and helped the team finish 4th in the 1980 WRC manufacturers' standings. It remains the only Mercedes-Benz model ever to win a WRC round, making it one of the most unique entries in the brand's motorsport history.
